WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR REMODELING AND REPAIRS

When is the best time of year to remodel your home or make significant repairs? That’s a common question that homeowners ask, but the answer isn’t always simple.

Choosing the best time to do a remodel or make repairs can save you time and money, while also helping your project stay on track and on time. The best season to tackle a big home repair or remodel project depends on where you live and the type of project. In Emerald Isle, North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic region, spring and fall tend to be the best times because the temperatures are relatively mild and dry.

Here’s a look at what to expect in each season:

Winter: January to March

Winter is one of the least-busy seasons for contractors, which can be great for your budget. The semi-frozen ground and dry air are some of the best conditions for digging foundations and pouring concrete. If you can complete the foundation and framing before spring showers begin, the project will most likely be completed on schedule.

Spring: April to June

Spring is a builder’s busiest time of year, which may make remodels and repairs a bit more costly. However, spring is a good time for constructing decks and patios, and working on other outdoor projects. Completing those projects in the spring and early summer means you’ll be able to enjoy your outdoor spaces during the summer and fall.

Summer: July to September
Summer is the perfect time to tackle kitchen, bathroom, and other indoor projects. Roofing projects are also often done during the summer because the heat helps with sealing. Plan your remodel or repair projects around your summer vacation, and you’ll get to come home to a brand-new space.

Fall: October to December

Most homeowners want their remodel and repair projects completed by the holidays. But, if you can wait to start during the holiday season, you’ll have an advantage. Fall begins the slow season for contractors, so the price of your project and the cost of the materials are often cheaper when you opt for this time of the year.

Each season comes with its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to a home remodel or repair project. Once you decide what project you would like to do, you can decide what will work best for you and when to begin.
