Aging in Place

Aging in place is one of the key concerns for retirees living on the Crystal Coast. In essence, the concept of aging in place means your home is thoughtfully designed to meet all your changing needs as the years pass. Your retirement home should be a sanctuary on the shoreline, a space that provides easy, comfortable living as you live out your dreams.

Aging in place means…

  • An open floor plan that’s easy to navigate
  • Large windows and plenty of lighting
  • No-step entries and smooth transitions between rooms
  • Wider doorways to accommodate mobility aids
  • Accessible bathroom design with walk-in shower
  • Easy to grasp cabinet pulls and counter-height design
  • Single level living

We can customize your home design to address your specific mobility or lifestyle needs as well. Call us today to schedule a consultation on building your perfect retirement home.

Retirement Home Design

There are two main approaches our clients take to retirement home design. The first method is to renovate and update your existing home to provide a cozy, modern space for aging in place. If you love your family home’s location and general design, but it no longer suits your lifestyle, then a renovation may be the ideal solution. We can alter the floor layout to create more open spaces, retrofit rooms with accessibility and mobility features, replace lighting, and renovate the structure as needed to fit your new lifestyle.

The second method is to build your dream retirement home from scratch. This is an exciting process that allows you to design your home from the ground up. Our expert team works with you to determine the most important features of your retirement home, taking aging in place enhancements into consideration. You can watch your new home take shape as we work, always keeping open the lines of communication for complete transparency and trust.

Whichever method you choose, Crystal Coast Construction can guide you through the process and ensure you end up with a property that supports you into retirement and beyond.

Vacation Home Testimonial

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value CCC designed and built our dream beach home. The references I received prior to choosing CCC were not wrong. They build a quality custom home, they are responsive and very honest. This experience was way better than the first home we built with a different builder in VA. CCC tries to include ALL costs upfront so you don’t have overages or try to up sell you after the project has begun. Also included in our package was time with an interior decorator, we really needed this and was a huge help. The amount of communication from the CCC team during the build was phenomenal. After our house was complete, CCC wasted no time getting on the punch list. You are going to have punch list items no matter who builds your home but most builders are not responsive in addressing them. I would recommend CCC to anyone who’s thinking about building a house in this area. If we ever build a second home in the area we will be using CCC.

Waterfront Testimonial

Crystal Coast Construction built two houses for me. One was a rental investment and the other a second home. Both were located at the beach. Building both homes with Crystal Coast Construction was a very positive experience for both me and my husband. Bruce Rogers who is the owner was professional, trustworthy, dependable, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. When a problem arose, which is a normal and expected event when building a home, Bruce always had several solutions for it when he called to discuss the problem. If you had a question or a concern, you could call him and if he did not immediately answer the phone, he would return your phone call in a very timely manner. When he submitted a proposal to us, a budget was presented as well. During the building process, we received an update to the budget every month, detailing what had been spent so we were aware of where we were within our budget. I cannot recommend this company enough for anyone building a home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is “aging in place”?
+

Aging in place means staying in your home as you grow older, even through health-related issues or loss of mobility. It means designing or renovating your home to suit your needs through retirement and as you and your loved ones grow older.

What renovations are best for retirement homes?
+

It depends entirely on your concerns and current health, but the most common upgrades we provide have to do with lighting, mobility, and balance. A home renovation that allows you to age in place should have abundant natural and installed lighting, wide doorways and flat surfaces that allow mobility aids, and grab bars, large knobs and door handles, and anti-slip flooring.

What is design build construction?
+

Design build construction is a project delivery method in which one entity, typically a design-build firm or builder, manages both the design and construction phases of a building project. This approach streamlines the process by combining design, construction and project management into a single team, which can result in a faster and more efficient construction process.

What is your process? How do I get started?
+

Our home building process starts with a consultation to discuss your goals, budget and vision for your custom home. We then work with you to come up with accurate estimates and develop a design plan that meets your needs and preferences. Once the design is finalized, we’ll obtain all necessary permits and begin construction.

Our team manages the construction process from start to finish, providing regular updates and ensuring that the project stays on track and within budget. We’ll even follow up with you a month after the build is complete and you’ve had time to live in your new custom home. To get started, simply contact us to schedule a consultation.

Can I bring my own design plans to a project?
+

Absolutely! Crystal Coast Construction welcomes clients who bring their own design plans to their projects. By doing so, you can actually reduce the build timeline, eliminating the 2-3 month design phase. In our initial meeting, we’ll review your plans to ensure compliance with building codes.

Our experienced team will carefully go over your plans with you to guarantee feasibility. Bring your design plans, and we’ll do our best to bring your vision to life while adhering to regulations and providing a personalized experience. Contact Crystal Coast Construction today to discuss your project.
